Blast from the sad past

I just read this post and bawled my eyes out.

God, that sucked so freaking bad.

So.
Freaking.
Bad.

Dude!

The tattoo artist in this clip was my first crush. Fourth grade. Until pretty much forever. I saw him at a wedding several years ago for an elementary school friend of ours and we just were having a wacky good time when I finally said, "You know, I had a hard core crush on you in elementary school." He was super flattered and we continued to have a good time.

How can you not crush on this guy??!?!?

Ties that Bind

Jen always remarks that she can't believe that somehow I manage to keep in touch with EVERYONE. Jen is sort of one of those people who has moved around a lot and then sort of drops ties with the people she knew at one place when she moves on to another place. I am the total opposite. I have moved a lot as well, but I totally hang on to people.

I still talk to people from kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, high school, college, summer camp, graduate school, and all of the different places I've lived. Jen boggles because I keep friendships with almost all of my exes. I feel like if someone has been significant in my life in some way or another at some point, it was for a reason - so why cut it?

There was one person that was REALLY important to me for a big chunk of my adolescence that I had totally lost track of - my big deal high school boyfriend that bought me a promise ring and all of that stuff. I tried to Google him from time to time with no avail, but a year or more ago I ran into his mom at a restaurant in our hometown and she showed me pictures of his kids and I told her to tell him hello. Apparently he has been seeking me out on the internet as well, but I keep my personal info away. (Good. I'm glad he couldn't find me. Not because I don't like HIM, but because I don't need to be found by clients and weirdos.)

Anyway, he totally sent me "mail" on classmates as a last ditch effort this week and it has been really fun to catch up. This boy who was my best friend from 8th grade through when I left for college is now a grown man with two kids, and his little sister that I used to babysit is 21 years old! Man, I am ANCIENT.

Now I can say that I am in touch with ALL of my significant exes, without having a gap for Muddy Mudskipper. FUN!

(Of course, now is when the, "You're with a WOMAN?!?!?!" questions all pop out, so that will be fun, too.)

Swan Swan H - R.E.M. - Life's Rich Pageant, 1986

Swan, swan, hummingbird
Hurrah, we are all free now
What noisy cats are we
Girl and dog he bore his cross
A long, low time ago, people talk to me

Johnny Reb what’s the price of fans
Forty a piece or three for one dollar?
Hey captain don’t you want to buy
Some bone chains and toothpicks?

Night wings, her hair chains,
Here’s your wooden greenback, sing
Wooden beams and dovetail sweep
I struck that picture ninety times,
I walked that path a hundred ninety,
Long, low time ago, people talk to me

A pistol hot cup of rhyme
The whiskey is water, the water is wine
Marching feet, Johnny Reb, what’s the price of heroes?

Six and one half dozen the other,
Tell that to the captain’s mother,
Hey captain don’t you want to buy,
Some bone chains and toothpicks?

Night wings, her hair chains
Swan, swan, hummingbird
Hurrah, we are all free now
What noisy cats are we
Long, low time ago, people talk to me
A pistol hot cup of rhyme,
The whiskey is water, the water is wine.

You dig okay.

I am having major motivational difficulties this morning. I can't seem to leave the couch, and I really think I only left the bed because I needed a quick breakfast to take my morning meds. And I've been on the couch ever since.

They've recently re-released The Outsiders on DVD with a new beginning and a new end that are supposed to be closer to the book. It's been so long since I've seen the original film (although I have it on VHS so I could put it in and compare) but I know that they added the "family court" scene and they didn't have Randy coming to the Curtis house after the whole Windrixville incident.

The Outsiders was one of my favorite books ever when I was little. I think I read the book for the first time in the summer Grade 4, when my brother had it for 7th Grade summer reading. I remember thinking how OLD all of the kids were - teenagers, young adults. I read the book for Grade 7 also and had the same feeling. I ended up revisiting the book after I;d graduated from high school and was struck how I was still feeling their age even though I'd surpassed some of the younger characters. When I was in Grade 4, 14 seemed SO OLD!

So yeah, I had a good Clomid weep over the whole "Nothing Gold Can Stay" scene and then again later during the Johnny death scene. So hopefully that's all out of my system.

I really need to get off my booty and move off this couch. There's a bunch of stuff around here that needs to be done and I'd like to make some sort of grocery list after. I can't lay here like a housecat ALL day, can I?
