It gets better.

Earlier today Jen called from work to tell me she was going to give me a break this evening and that if Punk was still sick, maybe we could talk about me going to Pride tomorrow with the kids from my old job and she would stay home with the baby.

And then she threw up at work, came home, and is back in bed. And Punk's temp is rising and rising despite Motrin, and I anticipate taking her in to the pedi after her nap.

And I need to go wash diapers now, and still have not eaten or showered.

Just keep swimming...

Oh, dear god, my gut and heart are knotting in sympathy for you even as I type this. This is such a horrible thing, such a horrible, horrible thing.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here with the assvice: eat. drink some water. You cannot be a good caretaker to your wife and child if you are falling to bits. I know it's rough, but it is more important than washing the diapers. If the diapers remain unwashed, you can stop and get sposies on the way back from the ped; I hate them too, but they sop up pee pretty well, and desperate times call for desperate measures. And believe you me, these are desperate times.

In fact, if you can possibly manage it or! if you have someone in the area who wants to help but who doesn't want to get sick, and you want to send them on a mission of mercy! get someone to a drug store and pick up a pack of Seventh Generation chlorine-free sposies and some RTF no-mix single-serving formula. I know it's expensive and it's not how you want to raise your daughter, but see above re: desperate times. I just got off a week of horrible illness where I essentially let the TV raise the baby because I was just so knocked out. This is not a time to prosper; this is a time to survive.

oh, no! and I didn't take either of your calls because I was going through the.exact.same.thing. I am so sorry. It -really- drains you when you are sick and have to care for others because you can't get the rest that you need. I wish I was there to help you. I really really do. You get the Mama award, for sure! call me.

xoxoxo
