[The setting - a restaurant. A young man, 29 and dashing, sits across from an older man, 54.]

Dad: So do /you/ have any idea why Judie and Aaron aren't together anymore?

Baga: Well, Dad, he probably got tired of being married to a lesbian.

Dad: [pause] Oh. [shrugs and continues to eat dinner]

Hey, your dad sounds pretty sharp.

Your brother... kinda doesn't.

Dude, you know my brother. Can you not see that he has probably been /dying/ to have that conversation with someone?

Tee hee hee. That is SO Baga.

I'll assume that it's NOT the case that your brother just outted you, but that your parents are simply about as clued in as my mother was pretending to be a few years ago (and I loved this one!) at the post office one time when someone was too close to her in line, peering at the TV screen to see how the Simpson trial was turning out, and then said, "I wonder how O.J. will get out of this one."

Orenthal J. SimpsonShe turned around with a look on her face that let him know he was invading her personal space and said, "Who?"

"You know. O. J. Simpson," he said.

To which she asked, "Who's O. J. Simpson?"

He gave her a LOT of space after that one. :)

And she was very proud of herself.

[For what it's worth, I checked, and the first sentence in this comment is NOT a run-on but this one is.]

No matter how many times I tell my parents, they don't seem to get it. I'm kinda hoping that Baga telling them means that they can't dismiss it as "me trying to shock them" again. Or something like that.

An unhelpful comment. :)

The sure fire way to get them to accept it is compromising photos.
Perphaps in major magazines, that you get them subscribed to.

Then conversations could contain phrases like 'Honey, Jude's on the cover again... I wish she'd just ask us for money'

Or maybe not.

Dude, that would be so funny.

You know, I could get working on those photos, but then I think you'd want to know which magazines.

By the way, thanks for the phone message yesterday! You are so good to me. :)

You wouldn't have to tell me, I get em all!
I'll just wait for the cover splash to say 'HEY JUDE! Inside!'

It was a sorta lame message, but that's what you get when you're not there.

I was at work. I'm /always/ at work. I am so sucky like that.

'JUDE INSIDE!' I like that. Hee.

Telling your parents.

You can. It's not easy though, by any means, no matter how "cool" your family is.

My mother, case in point, presents as a very liberally minded woman. Very PC, very 'don't want to say anything bad', very 'let people do what they want, it's their business.'

Until it's me. Then our conversations go like this:

Jude: Mom, you know that right before Aaron and I got together, I was coming out as lesbian and had decided to only date women.

Mom: You know, the dog's been really sick.

Feh. Frustrating. I'm thinking that both of my parents will actually get the message when I introduce them to someone instead of always telling them (like I did in the past), that I might someday.

Heh. My mom is very actively Catholic, and has finally stopped making comments around me like "I'm sure gay people are very nice, but you know there's something wrong with them. It's like a serial killer who can't help doing what he does - he's sick, and he needs professional help."

I don't think I can come out to my folks. =/

I would love to meet your parents. :) As someone who was very actively Catholic earlier in life, I'm sure we would have a lot to talk about.

Heh, and once I'd won her over, then the fun could begin! =P

*HUGS* to you. I'm sorry, honey. I know how things like that feel. I remember being a teenager and questioning my sexuality and hearing my stepbrother say stuff like, "Those fags and dykes are fucking sick, but the bisexuals, they're even .more. sick and fucked up because at least the faggots can make up their minds."

Yeah.

Hee. Imagination and I were talking yesterday, discussing her various boy-issues. She looked over at Widget, and said "Gee, I'm sorry you're going to have to deal with this crap when you get older." And I said "Yeah, bummer.... Hey wait! Maybe she'll be a lesbian!" And there was much rejoicing. Or at least amusement.

Off all the things Widget could do, being gay is so low on my list of concerns. *shrug*

You're welcome to try. But I should warn you, she tried to bite through Imagy's lip yesterday. I think she just knows how much Imagy wants a labret. Or she's really confused about smooching.

She's got lots of time to learn about smooching! And she'll have a Mommy and lots of aunts who will tell her that kissing girls is better. :)

Me too!

I was all super-stressed about telling my best friend, and it turned out ok.

I'm hoping my parent handle it half as well....
