I went to look at the Leafydale apartment, and that building is really nice. The apartment was nice, too, but the "$520, all utilities paid" schtick was a bit of false advertising. Apparently from October to April you also pay $60/month for heat, which while a utility, is not paid. Well, it is, but it's paid by you. And it's on the third floor. But the building is really nice, inside AND out.
So I think in the morning I'll call about the basement apartment. I forgot to check if my cell phone worked down there, but it worked in Jen's basement, and hers didn't, so maybe I'll be okay. I'd hate to have no service in my house. :(
I went to Rainbow Graduation tonight at Goodale Park. My work (GLBTSS) and the GLBT Alumni Society held a little picnic for all of the Big Gay Graduates. I got a piece of cake, a rainbow tassel, and a free year's membership to the Alumni Society. Brett also gave these artsy glass paperweights to me, Coworker Hope, and Coworker Velma. Yay! Free stuff! I got to see Patience & Erica, Jason-David, Brian, Chana, Rebecca, Will, and some other kidlets. And Chad was there. Hooray!
I won't be working there much longer. Oh no! What will I do without a Big Gay Job? (A job in Boston called me tonight - some youth home is opening a second residential facility for GLBT youth. Sob sob! Want. Job!) I guess I'll have to, you know, explore other avenues.

It's a small world
Date: 2002-06-05 08:22 pm (UTC)So, I saw Southpark Lynn Gold, which led me to Southpark Terence Chua, filker extraordinaire, which led me to this random user, Smurfchick, who it turns out I'd been partying with not 2 hours before. I have the rainbow tassle and invite to the GLBT Alumni society to prove it.
So, I read this chick's LJ, and hear tell she does Social Work. Now, Stillman Hall is a mighty small place, so ...
Me: big girl, keeps to herself, has 5yr old in tow. You? And if you are really into the whole filk music scene, email me (mailto:munn.7@osu.edu) and I'll get you directions to the next housefilk.
BTW, Congratulations!! Social Work, great choice. Couldn't pick a better one myself :) -
Re: It's a small world
Date: 2002-06-05 08:27 pm (UTC)I'm not a filker. Heck, I wouldn't know what filking was if it weren't for my friend Terence. I've known Terence for years and years thanks to the wonders of online. I saw him when he was in town last fall. (Was it last fall already? Sheesh!)
I remember you. Well, more to the point, I remember the 5-year-old. I snapped a picture of him with the GLBTSS digicam when he was playing with Solomon (P&E's puppydog).
I've never seen you in Stillman, are you a BSSW graduate or an MSW graduate. If you're an MSW student and haven't been in any of my classes, that's pretty weird. But you're right, Stillman's a small place, and social work is great, except for the paycheck!
I look like this photo. And like the Southpark thing too, really, hee. And I work up at GLBTSS for the next week or so. However, I will be here in Columbus. Whee!
Congrats on your graduation!
Re: It's a small world
Date: 2002-06-05 08:42 pm (UTC)Filk is the music of the science fiction/fantasy fan community, and gets much of it's inspiration from folk music. Terence is a performer in the genre, and was in town in October as a Guest of Honor for a music convention that I'm on the convention committee for this year. If the idea of filk interests you, let me know. The next housefilk is June 15 (yes, day after the travesty at the Shoe); I'm hosting. Imagine an all-geek, all-the-time graduation party, and you get the idea. And I remember you now mainly as the person-with-camera :) -
Re: It's a small world
Date: 2002-06-05 08:52 pm (UTC)I think it's funny that you and I were both posting about Melissa Murray at the same time. Look through your LJ comments, hee, there's one from me about WOW.
And I don't know a Crista Underwood or a Ricky Evans. Gah - do I know /anyone/? Hee.
This is funny as hell. And, for the record, I'm more than the person-with-camera. I'm the amazingly cool, totally cute, really modest person-with-camera. Word.

On the other hand, I have NEVER incurred a $60 per month increase in utilities for 6 months because of cold weather. Maybe one month during the winter, but otherwise central Ohio tends to be pretty mild, especially if you're living in a multiple dwelling building.
But if you like the apartment, and think $550 is a good deal for the location, then by all means sign the lease!
