One of my big pet peeves is when a director sticks a love scene in the middle of a perfectly good action movie or drama. It's like everything going on is either POWPOWPOW or cerebral, and then BAM! There's a guy and a girl having sex. I never really understood the point of love scenes, unless it was a romance movie or whatever, and even then, I usually got squirmy.

I realized last night while watching High Art at Mel's (it had been a while, and I don't think she'd ever seen it) that girl-girl love scenes give me this weird squishy feeling under my stomach. It doesn't seem out of place. I don't get squirmy.

Is that what girl-guy love scenes are like for other people?

Nope. I don't get squishy during girl-boy or girl-girl love scenes in movies. I can't think of any boy-boy love scenes in movies that I've seen. I'm not sure if I'd be squishy during a scene involving two males. Hmmm, something to ponder.

dude, In some movies it sucks cuz it's like, "MAN, that would've been a great movie if the sex scene wasn't lame" but then like, it other movies, It's what makes it THE movie! Like, without it, It wouldn't be the same. I think it was in "If these walls could talk 2".. the 2nd clip (I think).. That's fucking hot!

& like, fight club; that all was just pointless! it's like, "man, this is a great movie & i wanta watch it with like, everyone!" but then you can't exactly watch it with people like, your 'rents or something cuz that's ill!

I saw American Beauty with my mom and her husband and there was a scene where the wife was having an affair with the "Real Estate King" and they were having pretty active sex. I was mortified. I felt like I wanted to disappear into my seat. I mean, THAT WAS MY MOTHER!! What if she thought *I* do that? Ugh ugh ugh!

Before I knew I was queer, I always wondered what the big deal about girl-boy sex scenes was. They never did anything for me.

Then I saw Bound for the first time, and I started to understand. I get this heat - for lack of a better word - in my stomach when watching very romantic/sexy love scenes between women.

On the flip side, I usually hate lesbian porn (probably because it's made for men) while I'd much rather watch straight porn (?). I guess because there's no pretense for romance there, it's just all-out sex. Lesbian sex, for me, has to include intimacy.

I've never seen any straight porn. Once I walked into my friends' room and walked in on a couple of minutes of boy-boy porn. I walked out giggling. I've never seen anything since.

I know when I was starting to think that maybe my interactions with my female friends were "more than friendly" on my part, I had just gotten to college. My friend's mom had sent her a keychain with naked men (Chippendales or something) for her 18th birthday. I remember being completely and totally mortified. Everyone was giggly and stuff, and I didn't know what to do with myself. I think that was the one point in my life I ever felt the most "left out of the loop."

I can't imagine I'll ever watch any lesbian porn, because I don't like porn... but I sure do like those love scenes. Yowza. I know what you mean. :)

I'm TOTALLY with you on that entire post. Bound is the perfect film for getting someone...interested... ;) I can't stand it beyond the first 40 minutes or so, but then, I rarely get that far so does it matter? ;)

Probably. I only like certain parts of the first 40 minutes. Better Than Chocolate is MUCH better overall. It kinda gives a slow burn. Bound is kinda like fireworks. Suppose it's all in what you're looking for at the time..I'd never sit down just to WATCH Bound, I'll tell you that much.

I know. It's an absolutely horrible movie if you're expecting decent acting...or a story! But Gina Gershon & Jennifer Tilly sure can do a steamy sex scene. I think the movie was just a vehicle for them to get it on onscreen.

The japanese are way ahead of us....
It is a requirement apparently, in all anime to show a woman bathing, showing, or in some way being naked and wet. I believe this is due to a mistranlation of "wet".

Please note: The above only applies to Anime. Hentai has women being showered by other things all together, and live action japanese seem to translate love scene into "catch the female lead after she's been pumped full of lead."

I like good love scenes, although I can't think of any offhand in movies that aren't homemade. (Does it make me a perv to be amused by how many offline friends I have that seem to perpetually have a video camera mounted in the bedroom?)

Well, a few movies I've rented after reading their Good Vibrations synopsis and review-by-symbols (good chemistry, culturally diverse cast, etc.) had pretty good love scenes.

I'll enjoy pretty much any love scene as long as it has reasonable chemisty and doesn't seem too faked. But it sucks when they're too obviously faked, like the aforementioned love scene in Amercian Beauty. I mean, that just sucked, and not just because I'm not a fan of Annette Bening.

I don't think I've ever seen a guy-girl love scene that I liked. I'm trying to think of one and keep coming up empty. I do like some guy-girl romance movies, so I'm not entirely biased - Untamed Heart comes to mind immediately.
