I just called and left voicemail with the Assistant Director at the job I was supposed to have a million years ago. I said, "Hi [name], this is Judith [lastname] - I interviewed with you /two and a half months ago/ for the Treatment Coordinator position. I was hoping that you and I could get together, either in person or by telephone, to talk about some concerns and issues I am having with this process and the length of time it is taking to negotiate it. My home number is [home number], and you can also feel free to call my cell phone at [cell number]. I look forward to hearing from you, and hope you are having a wonderful day." And then I hung up and said, "Fucker."

Earlier today, I submitted my resume for a job at a hospice care provider who is specifically looking for an MSW-level clinician. When I started working at a homeless shelter, everyone said, "Oh, that must be really hard." I think I'm feeling the urge to push the envelope (or challenge my emotional and clinical skills?) on that one a little bit. I can't help but find the challenge of hospice care work exciting.

I rode my bike to the post office, and stopped by the via colori site on the way home. Surprisingly, the squares weathered (pardon the pun) the rain fairly well! I thought there would be a lot of streaks and runs, but really, everything was just faded. I took some "day after" photos of our square for posterity, and took a look at all the beauty one last time.

Hospice, etc

I've always wanted to volunteer for hospice work, if I had the time for it. I think that's incredibly brave of you. It's hard to give to people when you know the end is coming, posthaste. I'ms ending you support on both that and the other job. You handled the message beautifully. Good luck with it!

in regards to the long times it takes people to call you back (if they ever call you in the first place, that is, after sending out a few hundred resumes, not that i'm bitter), i know how you feel. i once had a great first interview, went back to meet with the ceo of the company, and was told by him that he didn't like me because i wasn't a married man and he couldn't trust me, but he'd consider me. three months later, i finally called up and cussed them out just to find that they hired someone else the day after my interview.

bastards.

The problem with these particular people is that they basically flat-out offered me the job in the beginning of JULY. I mean, I filled out the medical insurance forms, I filled out the "new hire" paperwork, I got a TB test, and we negotiated salary. Supposedly, they can't make a formal offer until they get my fingerprints back, which was supposed to take 4 weeks, then 4-6 weeks, then 7-8 weeks, and then last week the gem was "It got sent back 3 weeks ago because they couldn't read your name, so we sent it back and told them to rush it."

Mind, I did the fingerprint thing on 11 July.

Dude, it sucks that people don't call back. I know they're busy or whatever, but I /always/ call people back. Except you, cause like, you're not a married man. =P

I've been looking at bikes while I'm here in Vancouver since I'll be needing one soon. I got on one the other day in the store and sort of rode it around for a few minutes to see if I liked it, but my bum was soooo sore after that.

How do you do it? Do you have a banana seat?

I have a regular bike seat with a gel seat cover. To be honest, the gel seat cover doesn't seem to make a bit of difference. When I ride more than 5-7 miles, my butt HURTS. One day I rode about 20, and I had a hard time sitting for a while, and I felt like I was walking funny. So yeah, I feel your pain. You can get those big bike seats for touring bikes - I bet that would work better. My butt's just too big for my little bike seat.
