It's that day, that one day every year that should be celebrated, but isn't on any calendar. If you ever lived in any area that gets any kind of cold outside, you know this day. If you were ever a high school or college student in a cold weather place, you /definitely/ know this day.

It's officially the First Day to Go Outside Without Freezing. It's sunny, it's 40something outside, and you can almost smell the grass trying to grow. If I were in high school, this would have been the first day that I went outside after lunch, sat on the wall, and talked with friends. We would have big spring smiles and no jackets, even if we were cold. If I were in college, I would have taken my lunch outside today, sat on frozen concrete benches, and thought warm thoughts. There would be hopeful people playing frisbee on the lawn, and the outdoor population (once only smokers) would triple in size.

It's that time of the year, kids. I walked from my car to my building and just /knew/. Deep inside the earth, spring is growing, reaching, looming. It's about time.

I was just thinking the same thing when I went out to lunch earlier. I was not cold while waiting outside to get picked up, and then when we got to Aladdin's, they sat us next to open blinds, where the sun was spilling through onto the table in tidy little stripes. The waiter told us that if it was too much light for us, we could close them. Our responses of "no way" were practically in unison.

Too much light? Are they MAD?

Yeah, it was supposed to be that day today here, too.

It's not. It's cold. Poo.

yes!!! it is gorgeous here too. It makes me want to optimistically go swimming or something. Funny, too, cuz last night Ihad a dream that it was sweltering hot out and we couldn't stand it and were about to go to the beach and get ice cream to cool off.

I don't want to brag, but it's 60 degrees outside right now. Which is even more striking when I remember not being able to walk outside for too long without freezing my face in sub-zero temps as little as three days ago.

Roll on Spring!

We had snow last night. It must be the second month of the year, or something...

I can't wait for the windy stability of March...I think this year is going by so quickly. Wasn't it just January?

I was thinking the same thing the other day. Almost 1/6 of the way through the year now. Craziness.

I couldn't have said it better, and you brought back and reminded me of some fun memories. :)

It poured like mad last night, and today the sky is largely cloudless and the sun is shining. I want to go home and open up all the windows in my house, even though it's still rather chilly outside, just to get the stale air out and fresh air in!

Yeah, I wish we could open the windows, too. Get all of this dry nasty heated stuffy air OUT. I can't wait!
