Financial Frustration
Jun. 7th, 2004 03:11 pmWe live in the highest insurance zip code in all of Massachusetts. We are receiving quotes that are higher than $2000/year for one freaking car, and a diddly little Ford Focus at that! (One quote was $3500/year!!) This is giving me major money anxiety, as I am not sure that we are budgeted for over $200/month for car insurance, especially when we were paying $100/month in Columbus. I just don't know where this money is going to come from. I am ready to kick things.
I am desperately hoping to make at least $36K a year. It is ludicrous that this is a fantastical hope since I have two Master's degrees, but there you have it. I made $29K in Columbus but had money to spare. Making $36K is not even terribly likely, though hopefully I can score $34K if I beg a lot. I'm currently looking at a rent increase (my half) of $300/month, utility increases of unknown amounts, and now this stupid car insurance thing. It's so frustrating. I'm a broke social worker, so I live in a lower-income area to have affordable rent, and now I don't know if we can pay the car insurance. Augh! Vicious cycle. (Let alone the fact that I don't even HAVE a job right now, so I have an annual income of $0K.)
Money just makes me want to throw up. At least it's a nice day today.

Date: 2004-06-08 02:01 am (UTC)When I talked to one insurance lady, she was surprised that I wanted 100/300 coverage (which is what we had in Ohio). Apparently no one gets coverage that high because it's so pricey. Maybe I should reevaluate.

Date: 2004-06-08 03:16 am (UTC)If you don't have assets to protect, it might be worth it to take the risk on carrying lesser coverage if the price really does drop that much. At least until you and Jen know how the job situation is going to shake out.

Date: 2004-06-09 04:23 pm (UTC)We're going to the insurance place today to set stuff up and talk with a person. If that person can make us feel better about minimum coverage, I'll go for it. I'm just paranoid.
