I refused to pick ANY of the nasty 80s toys (my little pony and friends) because that's the kind of rebel I am. And I really truly hated all of them. And hold grudges. Against toys.

And speak in sentence fragments.

I like to think the fragments are my influence on you.
Because I'm like that.
And humble.

So what toys /did/ you like in the 80s? Someday I will make another poll JUST FOR YOU!

I picked Strawberry Shortcake for that one, in part because I remember my sister's toys, but mainly because, being a boy (and about 7 or 8) at the time, we had our own little rhyme for the jingle:

"Stinkberry Shortcake! My, she is a smell! Cute little doll with that stinkberry smell."

For Christmas last year, my dad got me the Care Bear I had that was distroyed when my basement flooded. It hangs out on my bed. Always.

Also, I'm very happy to see that Gem and the Holograms are fucking whomping the alternatives.

It's a conspiracy.

I can't remember the last time I even heard someone mention Fruit Stripe. (Loved the stuff, but my parents wouldn't let me have it as a kid. Too much sugar. We had Trident.) Then I was eating some cherry fruit candies just a bit ago and thinking it tastes a lot like the red candy in Chuckles. So I go poking around to read up on them. Turns out the company that made the candy I was eating now also has the licensing rights to Chuckles.....AND FRUIT STRIPE. It's a dagone conspiracy I tell you.

P.S. The only good 3-2-1 Contact was the original with Marc, Lisa and Trini. The wusses on the mid-80's version were awful.

Fruit Stripe gum tasted /really/ good for like two seconds. Then all the flavor went away and it tasted like sour ass.

You didn't miss much.

I couldn't pull their names out of my head, but yeah, I liked the original 3-2-1 Contact.

I voted for Mr. Wizard, though. It was a cool show, and I liked Stacy from the cast, although maybe I hadn't quite figured out why yet. :)

I went to a Square One school. I always giggle when I see Lisa Ling, because she totally got her start on Square One in the early 90s.

I never really read any of the books. Maybe a few Sherlock Holmes. I was an Alfred Hitchcock and the 3 Investigators type kid. :)

I love Jem and the Holograms! I still have a VHS tape I made of the episodes when they were airing. I also made a cassette tape of my favorite songs!

One thing though. Contrary to the opening theme, Jem wasn't truly, truly, truly outrageous, Pizzaz was. Pizzaz was the shit, yo!

I had a hard time picking the sleuths. I mean, the Hardy boys were so HOT. I was in love with Frank. I know everyone else loved Joe, because Shaun Cassidy was so pretty, but Frank was my favorite. And I read every single book I could get my hands on. It was just nice imagining Parker Stevenson instead of the boy illustrated on the cover.

But Encyclopedia Brown was perfect for kids with ADD: a series of short challenges instead of one long book. What a great idea! I mean, it could only have been better if it were Encyclopedia Brown Choose Your Own Adventure.

Good times. Good times.

One more thing!
