I am so full of emotion I don't know what to do. Do I squee? Do I bounce?

My Jennifer went to the doctor this morning for her annual physical, and while she was there, she had an actual conversation with our doctor about what steps she should take to prepare to have a baby in the next year or two. And while the baby-making isn't in our original timeline, I am so touched and excited that she actually spoke to the doctor about it, starting a productive dialogue, and put words to our mostly unspoken plans. I'm so proud of her for asking all of those questions and taking steps to get herself in a place where she feels she is ready for such endeavors. Wow.

Of course, finding this out has done nothing to quell my baby fever. Now I'm all "OMGZERS, I should take all this Metformin so maybe I can pop out a baby, too!" What the heck is up with that? I am officially losing my mind.

GIVE ME BABY.

Ha! I said that to Jen and she was like, "No way! Who would take care of whom?" I was like, "Noooo... so cool, we could have pseudotwins!"

what does metformin have to do with pregnancy?

Well, Metformin used in PCOS helps to treat the insulin resistance that has been found to set off a whole host of other endocrine-related issues, including knocking a bunch of fertility hormones out of whack like testosterone, estrogen, prolactin, etc. All of this wackiness leads to anovulation which makes it pretty much impossible to get pregnant. With the right dose, in a lot of people with PCOS Metformin/Glucophage addresses the insulin resistance, giving the body a more normal amount of insulin which in turn pushes the other hormones back within the normal range and allows for ovulation to occur.

Ah.

That would do it. I know one lesbian couple that's considering ferility drugs on top of the artificial insemination and I have to bite my tongue real hard to not tell them to just get a kid that's already been made. Nobody likes being told that they're wasting their time spreading their DNA (even when they complain about their family's cholesterol and other genetic problems).

Well, I definitely plan to adopt a child at some point in my life. I'd also love to be a foster parent.

Some people really want a biological child to continue their bloodline. Sure there are lots of "ready-made" children out there, but in order to adopt a baby/infant, you usually have to buy one, so I don't know if that's better or worse. Private adoption is very expensive, and state/county adoption usually involves older children and/or children with many special needs, both of which are their own challenges.

Yeah, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that Private Adoption is orders of magnitude cheaper and easier than fertility drugs.

Private adoption isn't covered by health insurance. Many fertility treatments are now, at least partially.

How sweet!!!

You'll make such a great mommy!

I know Metformin has different uses and helps different problems. But, how will that help you in preg? Jus curious I know that it helps PCOS and type II diabetes. :)

If Metformin can get all of my PCOS-hormone-issues back on track, maybe I'll start ovulating like a real person! :)

Yeah, I read the communities from time to time, I just don't really want to join any right now. I barely have time to read what I have now! :) Thanks for posting, though.

We can be SISTERS IN POOP. Oh yeah oh yeah.

So did you have all the crazy side effects (constant diarrhea, dizziness, etc.) that everyone is going on about?

From: [identity profile] auntiesiannan.livejournal.com
I had the shits for a bit, and the dizziness the first couple of days. Things have settled down.

Just remember to take it with foodies and you'll most likely be fine.

Thanks, mama. I just took my first pill tonight (but haven't eaten yet). I'm going to take 500mg for a week (I think) before heading to 1000.

It will be nice and doofey and rosey and Auntie will knit it some red booties and buy it one of ,a href="http://www.fisher-price.com/us/products/product.asp?id=199">those Fisher-Price popper things because every kid needs that.

And the bubble mower too. Key toys.
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
Dude, the corn popper and the bubble mower are SO requirements!

So many cool toys are getting replaced these days. Remember the old school Fisher Price rotary phone with smiley face? The cash register with the plastic coin money? GONE.

You need the little wooden bench that you pound pegs through. You can't find them no more.

They still make the XYLOMAPHONE tho.
From: [identity profile] judecorp.livejournal.com
We have the wooden bench that you pound pegs through at work. We have lots of old school toys because we're po' and we take a lot of old donated toys. I should filch them for my own kids!!
