Well, in all of the activity around here I never mentioned that I received e-mail a week and a half or so ago from a Human Resources person at ODJFS, stating that I'd passed that job candidacy exam I took when Jennifer and I were in Columbus last month. This past Thursday I got a call from a woman at ODJFS about scheduling an interview for the job.

Unfortunately I had to call her back and tell her that I couldn't even think about it right now, that there is too much going on here, and I asked that I continue to be considered in the future if possible.

Right now moving to Columbus is just not a possibility, and it makes me sad that I was so close to landing a secure, well-paying job with career advancement... just a little bit too late.

Aah well, hopefully this means something better is around the corner out here.

Have you applied for anything with the state of MA?
Are they as slow in the hiring process as OH is?

I don't know about other state agencies, but when I got my job at UMass, it took 4 months from application deadline to start date. And that was considered extremely quick; the average hiring process for professional staff took about 6 months.

State hiring processes are THE WORST.

When I first moved here, I applied for a couple of jobs through the department of social services here in MA. I never heard from them, which is sad.

I have a better "in" at ODJFS because one of my old coworkers works there, and she basically told their HR department that I walk on water.

I'm sorry to hear that. Something better IS right around the corner. The universe kind of owes you one right now (in my opinion, at least).

aww that is sad but at least you know that you are astute and a good worker. i'm sure something will come up in RI that'll meet your monetary needs.

I'm not worried about the money, I'm worried about actually doing something in my chosen field for once. Man, my clients keep getting younger and younger, and I'm moving further and further from the queer scene.

Sad sad.

around the corner...

Coming out of the livejournal closet, I am. I'm a friend of exoteris and I've been reading your journal for some time...as a lurker. *gasp!*

Your livejournal entries enrich the lives of so many--even many you've never met. Your candor, your whimsy and your thoughtfulness give me something to strive for and at the very least, something to chew on everyday.

Let this be a "hello. nice to meet you. i'm a fan." Also, I wanted to share this blog with you. This most recent entry of yours, specifically the last comment, reminded me of Tammy.

Oooh, a [livejournal.com profile] psychostalker! I have always wanted one of those! :)

Thanks for the link to that blog. I haven't had a chance to give it more than a cursory look but I'll have to check it out more tomorrow when I have a couple of minutes. Right now I'm trying to do 874397193 things at once. Argh, I hate when I do that!

It's very nice to meet you, Karin.

Psychostalker? Hmmm. If only I were 14 again. (Isn't it sad that obsession all too often seems to fade to apathy by age 25?)

It's just that your last comment reminded me of an entry Tammy wrote weeks ago, so I had to go look it up. May 30th (Self Light) and May 13th (One of Three Answers). Your writing styles are different but your wisdom is remeniscent and seems to echo.

I don't know if you're up on Hollywood stuffs, but fyi, "Tammy" is actress Tammy Lynn Michaels, sometimes best known as wife of Melissa Etheridge. :)

We at ODJFS will most certainly NOT be better off without you. :(

I completely understand that this is not a good time for you. Tis a pity.

I'm so torn about all of this SO much.

I really REALLY want to interview. But 1) I have no $$$ to buy a ticket (we just bought tickets to go see Jen's parents in August), 2) no time off work (see aforementioned trip to see Jen's parents), and 3) I don't know when things will be settled around here.

Do you think there's a chance that they'll keep me in mind for future considerations? I feel so BLAH about leaving this chance unchecked. When I voicemailed the woman (Mary Curry in Managed Care), I specifically said that I was still interested but was wrapped up in family stuff right now. Do you think they might keep me around?

I don't know that name, but there are SO many new people in managed care. I imagine they will keep you in the pool of candidates. Maybe you should call once a month or so to tell recruiter dude or somebody else that you want to make sure you are still in the loop?
