Every so often I would really like:

1. A baby that likes to be cuddled instead of writhing away from being held

2. A spouse who can actually lay in bed with you when you're crying and sad without suddenly falling asleep and starting to snore.

#1 will only get worse as she gets more mobile. I swear I have to pin Emma down to get a hug or cuddle these days.

August has NEVER wanted to cuddle. Ever. Even when she was a teeny baby, if I put her on my shoulder she would arch her back away. I read all of this stuff about how babies love to melt into their mothers' arms and I'm like, "Umm, what?"

It has gotten so bad that I can't even hold her close and feed her anymore... the past couple of days I have had to swaddle her to give her a bottle or take her into a pitch black room.

Is that normal?

1) Apparently I was the same way as a baby. Maybe I'm her sperm donor! ;)

2) I'm really sorry to hear that. That's not too much to expect in any way shape or form.

re: 2.

I know how that feels...sometimes you don't know exactly what you want except for someone to sort of stay up with you.
Hopefully you'll feel better in the morning.

It's like, okay, we're talking, we're talking, there's a pause, and then... zzzzzzzzz.

It's probably my least favorite thing ever in the history of least favorite things. I think I'm worth staying awake for, especially at 9pm.

I hear you. (i know it's been a couple days, but i'm slow on my googlereader! only when i have time.)

if the light is out, and it's "sleeping" type time, max can fall asleep in literally 3 seconds or less.

sometimes? it really sucks.

Hey, I can relate with #1 - Rio has always been such a high-strung baby (always on the go-go-go!) - there's never been much cuddling... I wish there was!

By the way - the other night - my baby's sleep was terrible! ugh! woke up about 4 times... I was delirious the next day... will these sleepless nights EVER end?

Jude - my other half does this exact. same. thing. Seriously. She falls asleep while massaging my back. While she is in the middle of her own sentence. I hate hate hate it and get SO pissy with her. I have learned, however, that she really doesnt have control. She has amazing powers of sleep - it's like a superpower or something.

((hugs)) I throw tantrums about it. That is probably not worth it though.

Re: a not so snuggly baby - this can be totally normal. It is just a temperament thing.

That has to be one of the most lonely feelings in the world...being sad and awake. I'm sorry. :(

I hope your day is better today.

Morella isn't too much of a cuddle bug either -- and when she is I have to give her medicine that makes her hate me. :P

And ... I laughed at the second point, only because I know what you mean it's a pathetic sort of thing. If that makes any sense.

for a while, T&J would only take bottles while in their bouncy seats or while laying on the changing table. what an appetizing place to eat. we used to call it their favorite restaurant, esp during night feeds when they were tiny. they also don't love the cuddle most of the time, but it is actually getting better as they get older. maybe the same will be true for punk. and sorry about the inappropriately snoozing spouse!! chris

I'm sorry that Gus isn't cuddly and that J isn't being loving or cuddly either. I hope that you're surprised... soon... by the shows of cuddly love that you so richly deserve.

Kids change SO MUCH in the first few years. Ours went from so-easy-we-had-to-check-her-breathing-sometimes to downright ornery to very reticent about shows of affection to affectionate (at least for right now). It's such a crazy puzzle... and yet you love them no matter how difficult they're being.

I wish that your J could snap to and just envelop you in support. I wish the same with my parnter sometimes. It's not her default MO, but she still surprises the heck out of me at times.

Best,

Bree
