Yeah, that's what I don't understand at all... why it's a big deal. What's so freaking scary about a bunch of queers getting married? It's become this whole stupid ordeal around here (well, not HERE but here in the US) like God is just waiting to smite everyone if the queers get to have marriage licenses. I mean, God hasn't blown up Massachusetts yet.

And no - none of the front runners are speaking out in favor of same-sex marriage. Just the people who never stood a chance.

Now see - YOU see it that way, and *I* see it that way... but we're not US politicians, are we?

I'm not sure that the Federal Government has made on stand on discrimination for the country. I don't believe it has. I know that some states have, and the gov has talked about discrimination in the federal workforce, but I don't think there is any sort of law or policy.

Well, that is why Canada had to legalise same sex marriage - because it is illegal to discriminate according to Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Yeah, it is according to the U.S. Constitution too.

I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here, but some people don't realize that we once interpreted the same document to assume that property rights and voting rights only applied to white men. It was always assumed that things like interracial marriage were just not OK, even though the Constitution has always has that ALL people have rights. Hopefully, they'll all realize pretty soon that that document doesn't exclude us either.

i am totally with you on this, but then i think about someone like my dad who is just so old school texas republican righty whitey and how it's just the only way he knows how to be. it's like, some people's brains are just totally locked down.
