Yesterday I did about a bazillion loads of laundry while entertaining an infant. At one point I even carried one of the overflowing laundry hampers down into the basement while wearing said infant in front of me with her legs "sitting" on the mound of laundry. I feel accomplished for doing that, but it was largely unsafe and I will never do that again. However, it did get more laundry done. I also washed all of the dishes, picked up the living room, and had a little playdate/coffee date with another mama. Phew.

Today I hit the mall to pick up Punk's 6 month pictures that we got at Target because Target portraits are cheap and you can send lots of wallets to the grandparents. So I fetched pictures, got a bunch of Valentines for said grandparents, restocked our ibuprofen and diaper cream, got stamps at the post office, and scored a major find at BRU - I found one of those gigantic "weekender" diaper bags on clearance, with an additional 20% off, and the total was less than a merchandise credit I had in my wallet. So I got this huge bag for free, which will be vital when we go to Florida. When we went to SC, we had to try to stuff everything into one of our every day diaper bags which was a huge PITA because if we wanted something, we had to pretty much unpack the whole thing. This thing is like the size of a luggage carryon, has an insulated pocket for two bottles, has sections for things like keys and cell phone - it's awesome. And it was FREE.

Speaking of Florida, Jen was confirming plans with her mother about the trip and said something like, "Your granddaughter wants you to take her to Disney." (Jen's mom is a major Disney nut.) The next day, Jen got an e-mail about a hotel reservation for two nights at Disney's All-Star Music Resort. !!! So I guess Jen's parents are taking us all to Disney for a couple of days. I am more than a little nervous about how that will go. Punk usually has a two hour maximum at any one place. Hopefully by the time we go she will learn how to fall asleep in the stroller or the wrap. (Currently both are a no. She will sleep in her crib, in a bed, and in the car seat.)

Valentine's Day is in two days and I am just not feeling it. Usually it's one of my favorite holidays but I just can't hack it this year. Someday maybe I will write a big melodramatic post about how love hasn't been going at all the way I'd like it to. Someday. Maybe.

I've never really been into Valentine's Day. I did, however, do something clever last year: I hit Barnes and Noble for post-holiday sale browsing and picked up cute not-licensed-character Valentines to use this year for a song, along with decorations for future class party use. It was nice to find I had enough decorations this year to share with classrooms that don't have a class parent.

I am curious to see how Punk does on her first big vacation. Laurel traveled well as a baby, but we didn't do the first amusement park visit until she was 4.

She did really well when we went to SC for Christmas, I was impressed. She was awesome on the planes and she slipped right into nice routines at my brother's house. But we weren't terribly active, you know? We didn't try to go anywhere major and we certainly didn't stay out all day.

I just hope she finds a way to fall asleep while we're out. The idea of her not napping and being miserable makes me super sad.

Mmmm, trashy Valentine's date! Bring it on!

I'm actually supposed to have wings tomorrow with some friends. Makes me think of you!

Gus will love Disney! We took D when he was 4 months and just got back with M & they both loved it. Make sure to take her on Small World. Now is a great time to go too because the lines aren't bad at all! If you can, try to go to a Pirate & Princess party at Magic Kingdom - it costs a big more but there are hardly any people & no lines for rides! I loved it!

I was wondering if you can take babies on Small World. Jen was worried that they wouldn't allow her on anything, but I was thinking we probably could do those things. I think she will have fun with lots of things to see... but she is soooo squirmy. We'll have to see how it goes.

I just wish she would sleep in strollers or wraps. If she doesn't nap all day we'll have hell to pay!

Actually you can take babies on almost everything! That's why it's so great. You can't take them on the bigger rides like Splash Moutain, etc but there are only a few you can't.

Yeah the nap thing can be hard. Luckily Maia is pretty flexible and just fell asleep in our arms of exhaustion!

I think she would definitely eventually fall asleep of exhaustion... but she would probably howl for hours before that happened! Maybe in two months things will be different.

i would like to hear your thoughts on love, esp r/t being new parents. i have no idea how to juggle it and it scares me.

Well, I wish I had good thoughts for you, but I don't. Because I feel like I lost the love while I was pregnant. Or maybe before? I don't even know.

But it's really hard to do anything in the first couple of months when you are nursing/feeding all the time and trying to sneak sleep whenever you can. Things are much more predictable now and I know that if things were better between us we could have lots of opportunities these days. But I don't really know how to repair the damage that was done during TTC/pregnancy and I'm too exhausted and tapped out most of the time to really give it good thought.

I hope you have better luck. xo

Do you know how to do back carries? Will she let you do a back carry? Back carrying REVOLUTIONIZES one's ability to get stuff done around the house.

Have fun in FL, and nice score on the diaper bag! :)

I "know" how to do back carries. Like, I have the info. I just have never done it in practice because I don't trust myself to put her on my back by myself... and she is verrrrrry squirmy in wraps and things which makes me super-dee-duper nervous.

Can you try it on the weekends with Jen to help? Or, borrow/get an Ergo - back carries are way easy with an Ergo.

ETA: or Beco or Mei Tai... any soft structured carrier.

I have a mei tai that was made by a WAHM. I have a hard time putting Punk in the mei tai, though, because she has to open her legs really wide and she has those darned tight hip adductors. I wonder how that would affect putting her in back.

We are considering buying an Ergo or Beco before our FL trip. You know, with all our money. ;)

I think you'll run into the same issue with the Beco or Ergo. I hadn't thought about the adductor issue. :( Try and test drive before buying if you can. Is there a NINO group or some other group in the area that has babywearing get-togethers? That's a great way to try stuff out. If we were closer or coming your way I'd absolutely be happy to help.

I have tried on a friend's Ergo and it's fine, I can put Punk in it (I stretch her out!) but it takes a little effort... so I would definitely need help to back-carry her. I think it's possible but I don't think I can do it myself. I'll have to try stuff when Jen is around. xo
