It just took me a ridiculous amount of time to take my right contact out. My right contact is harder to get out than my left I guess because of trying to fit my right thumb in the little corner of my eye. Yuck. Anyway, I couldn't get it out and scratched my eye a million times in the process. And then eventually it was out.

...and it is misshapen. Obviously that explains how hard it was to get out or whatever but how would that happen? I have worn these contacts all of 5 times and they are 30 wear lenses. Why would it get warped? It's like it's bent or has a ripple in the edge. WTF? And now my eye is all kinds of irritated.

I am so cheesed about this. I wish I hadn't ordered more contacts. HATE.

They get like that when they are dry. Let it soak in solution for about 15 minutes and then check; it shouldn't be ripply by then.

Are you putting a drop of saline in your eye before you try to get it out?

It sounds like they are getting really dry and you need to be putting drops in while you wear them! That will probably help.

You sound like me when I first got mine (granted I was 12 ;) ). PATIENCE. They are so worth it. I'm wearing my glasses right now and am miserable. Can't see as well AT ALL.

Soak the contact. Next time, if you can't get it out after a few tries, wet it (get contact lens drops - make sure they're safe for contacts!) and then try again. I may make you a video of how I take out my contacts ;)

Agree with this. When I switched from hard to soft lenses, I had to wet my eyes constantly, and if I wear my lenses more than 14 hours, I need to re-wet my eyes before I take them out.

It's exactly as I imagined it would be; your suffering is a beacon to all of us who are considering contacts!

(Srsly, I get "you have such nice eyes" a lot when I set aside the glasses, but I can't see ten feet without them. I, too, want nice eyes *and* no glasses, but am so clumsy/addle-brained/goofy that I'd be the guy who accidentally set his contacts on fire while they were *still in.*)

Yep. Just dry. And definitely moisten before trying to get them out.

Are you still having trouble getting them in? I use a method I learned when I first got mine (at 16) where I use both hands. I use my left (non-dominant) to raise my upper eyelid and them use my right middle finger to lower my lower eyelid. And my right pointer finger to insert the contact. Other people I've seen put their contacts in use one hand, so I just thought I'd put it out there. I can't do it any other way.

Hang in there with it - i was on softs for 3 years recently, before switching back to the awesomeness that is gas perms.

Anyway, soak it overnight and see if it doesn't rebound. But my last 4 pack, which is supposed to last me a year, of lefts had 2 contacts with flaws that made them utterly unwearable. My doctor would have been willing to send them back for replacements for free, if i hadn't decided for unrelated reasons to switch back. If it doesn't rebound overnight, call your doctor and see if your manufacturer replaces flawed contacts.

And good luck. I've been on contacts since 1981 and except for the brief foray into soft lenses i've had great luck with them and would never switch back to glasses again. Hopefully you, too, are compatible :)

I just got contacts too, and i'm trying to decide if I like them. On one hand, i'm a right sexy beast without glasses, but on the other hand, the constant-eyelash feeling is not cool at all. So i'm not sure. Maybe you just got a bum lens and the rest will be ok.

How are you trying to take them out? Your thumb never needs to go in the corner of your eye. If you take your thumb and forefinger and put them together at a little bit of an angle you just put the angle right in front of your pupil and pluck the contact out.

When my husband was trying to take them in and take them out the way the eye doctor showed him he was failing miserably and hating them. Then I showed him how I do it and he started doing it my way and was much more successful. The doctor's make it harder than it is, I swear.

I can make a video of me taking them out on my phone and post if you want. Maybe it would help to see someone else do it? Contacts are so great once you get used to them!

Well, since you bought more, I'd agree with everyone else. Try periodically putting drops in if your eyes are getting too dry and adding a drop of saline before taking them out.

You will get better at putting them in and out.

But... ultimately, you might decide it's just not worth it. My eyes are really sensitive. I wore contacts from age 13 to 20, despite that. Then one day, after fighting with my eyeballs for 30 minutes, I decided I could've spent those 30 minutes more productively and gave up on contacts. I like my glasses. It helps that I invested in good glasses. (I figure since I don't wear contacts, that I should have glasses I really like.)

So, anyway, stick with it and see how it goes. You can ultimately decide no if this keeps up, or it might well get easier... especially if you use some drops. It does get easier for most people. Even I got better at it after a while. Sorry it's a pain though.

awww... this was SO me when I first got mine (in the 7th grade) I actually got into screaming matches with my mom about it because my inability to put them in caused me to miss the buss (more than once)

it gets easier. I dont even need a mirror anymore - in fact, I think I put them in and take them out in my sleep sometimes. mine still get misshaepen sometimes - I have a tendency to rub my eyes a lot which ends up rubbing them in half. (yikes!)

just practice taking them out and putting them in at a time when you're not stressed or pressed for time (does one of those exist as a new mother? maybe not)

and if it doesn't get easier for you - take comfort that you look cute in glasses

;)
