Clothing-related thoughts
Jul. 16th, 2003 01:02 pm- There's something smugly satisfying about wearing the shirt from my old Boy Scout uniform.
- ...with my d-y-k-e necklace.
- I have all of these nice, girly clothes. I've had them for years, and I used to really like wearing them. I keep them, because I like them. And every once in a while, I try to put them on, and I look and feel so ridiculous. But I'm the same person that bought them!
- I really /do/ think that while I was taking birth control for years, the hormones changed my personality. You can tell by the abrupt shift (and then revert) in wardrobe.
- But I don't know if I should get rid of those clothes, or keep them in case I have another shift. They're not hurting anyone.
- Or maybe I've finally discovered the secret to still knowing I'm a girl (when I want to be) even in my most comfortablest clothes.
- Or maybe I think too much. Actually, I /know/ I do.
- But what do I do with all of these girly clothes? Save them in case I change my mind again?
- I need new underwear. But have no income.
- And I really want boxer briefs. They look so comfortable. Does anyone wear them? Are they?
- When I wear clothes I don't feel comfortable (emotionally, not physically) in, I lose some of my self-confidence. Does this happen to anyone else?
- My favorite colors to wear are orange, and olive green.
- Boobs screw up my clothes.
- I dress like my
smurfbrother. - I want to go thrifting.
- I ask too many questions.

Date: 2003-07-16 10:03 am (UTC)I don't know /why/ this is so, but ever since I noticed that it's true, I've been trying to change it - especially since I have to dress up to come to work. Blech. But you're not the only one who feels that way.

Date: 2003-07-16 01:22 pm (UTC)Every time I've worn a dress in the last year or two, I've gotten slathered with compliments about how "pretty" I look. And usually, I'm so damned uncomfortable already that being told I'm pretty usually makes me want to upchuck. And then I'll walk around thinking I look totally hot, and no one tells me I'm pretty.
Heh, I guess I just like the "wrong" kinds of girls. ;)

Date: 2003-07-16 10:26 am (UTC)This used to happen to me all the time, but in reverse of you. When I was trying to dress like I thought a dyke should--jeans, bowling shirts, chain wallet *rolls eyes*--I felt far less confident. I felt schlubby, which I couldn't understand since all the women I was attracted to looked just like I did. Well, therein lies the rub!
Now, in skirts and girly, low-cut things, I feel most like myself, and therefore more confident.
And I vote: trim the girlie wardrobe to just that which you love, and let the rest go. It could never hurt to have a few girlie things. It's all about options options options.

Date: 2003-07-16 01:23 pm (UTC)And that's a good idea about trimming the wardrobe. I did it somewhat when I moved, but I think I could certainly part with some more. Maybe I can sell the stuff to consignment shops, or donate to a place that collects work clothes for women.
Amen for options. I will definitely keep the dirndl.

Date: 2003-07-16 10:30 am (UTC)Oh I wondered... were you a Boy Scout or do you just have a uniform?

Date: 2003-07-16 01:00 pm (UTC)So yes, I was a Boy Scout. And yes, I have a "dress uniform," though the shorts don't fit me anymore. :)

Date: 2003-07-16 10:34 am (UTC)I wear boxer-briefs a lot. They ARE super comfortable, as long as you don't wear them more than 16 hours or so. Like, wearing them overnight gets icky. But otherwise they're so comfy that I make a point of wearing them when my girlybits are owie.

Date: 2003-07-16 01:26 pm (UTC)I agree on the boobs. Mine aren't even terribly big - just enough to be annoying. Ugh.

Date: 2003-07-16 10:40 am (UTC)Boxer briefs are grand, but the loose their shape after long wears, and if you're a well-fed girl, they may ride up when they're past their prime... a bonus to that is, you end up looking like you're packing, which works for drag night...
And now all of the world knows about my underpants...

Many things about who you are and what you like have changed since you got them.

Date: 2003-07-16 11:56 am (UTC)also some number of posts ago you suggested selling an egg to make some money, not sure how serious you are but i'd suggest against it as i'm fairly sure i've heard that fucks your hormones all to hell and back and i'm assuming that would be no good.

I wonder how much I would get for my boobs on eBay...

Yes. I would deal with it, temporarily, for the money, though. Though I'm beginning to understand that they wouldn't take me anyway.

Date: 2003-07-17 06:43 am (UTC)I know what you mean about losing your self-confidence and then your outfit goes to hell. I have this "requisite black dress" for functions. I wore it to my last graduation and felt like a big goober the whole time. I wore the same dress a month later at a wedding, and felt very sex-ay.
Weird.

Date: 2003-07-16 09:28 pm (UTC)when i'm wearing my ridiculous girl clothes it's sorta fun. like playing dress up. but i turn into a completely different person, even more shy and anxiety-ridden than i usually am (which is a lot). it's stressful to be a girl. especially a queer one in a straight venue. but i guess life is like that.

Date: 2003-07-17 06:45 am (UTC)I can definitely relate to that. It seems like if I'm wearing "the outfit" then I start to fall into "the role." I get quieter - I guess I'd never thought about it before you said this, but I do. And try to take up less space. When I wear my regular stuff, I'm my usual loud, obnoxious, spacehog self!
I wish life /wasn't/ like that.
