So I hadn't gone to the gym in almost two weeks... before my haircut at any rate, which was on the 6th. I thought that I should go today even though I'm not feeling all that great, since I pay for the damned membership no matter what. While I was there I figured I would hop on the scale to see how much weight I've gained back from my slovenly lifestyle, membership in the Saturday Night Ice Cream Club, and the numerous deliciously fatty foodles I ate when [livejournal.com profile] crena was visiting.

But I lost five pounds!

This is so crazy. I have no idea how I'm losing this weight, unless it's the Metformin. Because, really, I'm still eating crap food, not exercising enough, nothing. And my clothes don't really fit any differently. Maybe the scale at the gym is broken?

I'm now merely 10 pounds heavier than I was when I was on the crew team in college. And that was when I was the Incredibly Sexy Bionic Woman.

Damn.

Metformin???

Metformin (http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/DVH/Uses/0,3915,426%7CMetformin,00.html) is a drug that was created for Type II Diabetes but has recently begun being prescribed for people with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, as PCOS has been linked to a number of endocrinologic problems such as insulin resistance, high cholesterol, etc. So while I don't have any cysts in my ovaries (at last check), my doctor thinks I likely have some form of PCOS because I had a high level of insulin in my blood although my blood sugar was in the normal/low normal range.

So I've been taking Metformin since mid-February to try to level all of my hormones out and become a fertile earth goddess or something. ;) (Apparently it's working, at least a little. I got my first period in three years last week.)

And yes, I got the book and have been reading some every night before bed. Thank you so much! I'll be done in no time!

Forgot - regarding the metformin - my thoughts were that those that took it lost weight because they went to the bathroom 99% more than they did before taking it! (or at least that was the case for me) That or it sucked so much going to the bathroom every 5 minutes you stop eating so much! :) I am SO glad you don't have that side effect, you are one lucky girl.

Yeah, I'm really lucky in the bathroom department. I mean, sometimes I take it and like 15 minutes later I'm like, "Oh, I have to go to the bathroom RIGHT NOW!!" but it doesn't happen very often, and after I go I'm totally fine.

So... I'm thinking about going back for my MSW. Any tips? Talk to me.

I think it's a great idea! I think you should go to school near me and be my roommate. Yes, that's exactly what you should do.

So I want to work in family therapy and with women who have eating/weight issues. Can I do that with an MSW?

Of course you can. You can do almost anything with an MSW. But you can certainly be a therapist. :)
